Searching for the promised land
The ancient Russian village is located in the picturesque Koibal'sk valley, on Sos creek, which flows into the Abakan river. What is the history of its origin?
Some historians assert that the first inhabitants of village were migrants from Tomsk province, to which the migrant-sectarians joined much later. Others indicate that the first inhabitants of village were exiled for their "faith" from the central provinces of Russia landowner's peasants. Let us refer to the work of E.Vladimirova a student of local lore "T.M. Bondarev and L.N. Tolstoy": "the appearance of the village of Iudina, as is evident from the affairs of Shushenskoe of rural district administration, it is pertained to the year 1838, when in the searches for the free land for the settling of profit here three travelers [on foot] — the peasants Bogdanov, Anikin and Borisov.
These walkers [travelers on foot] were the representatives of the landowner's peasants, "fallen from the orthodoxy", sent from the North Caucasus and installed to the settling into the village Zaledeyevo,  Krasnoyarsk district. The settled down in Zaledeyevo, 25 versts [26.6 km, or 16.6 miles] from Krasnoyarsk, located along both sides of Moscow circuit and which served as the last "camp" near the town, she attracted much travelling authorities and clergies; yes even local clergy, rural district Chief Petty Officer, assessor and police officer disturbed settlers by their cavils and "admonitions". This forced settlers to search for for themselves the most suitable, distant from the authorities, clergy also of travelling circuit, place; moreover this place it had to be in grain-producing, rich pasturings for the cattle, it is close to the scaffolding, abundant by beast and by game, and also to the river for the alloy of forest and fishing.

Such requirements, in the opinion of walker, satisfied the section, situated in the fertile valley of creeks Sos and Kyndyrly creeks, that flow rigth into the Abakan and flowing from Western Sayan. The place, where settlement was outlined, defended from the county city it was Minusinsk to 150 versts [160 km, or 99.4 miles], from the rural district administration (village of Bay) — to 35 versts [37.3 km, or 23.2 miles] it was located far from the travelling circuit. Walkers established there settlement and they named iot  "Bogdanov", and when arrived there migrants from the villages of Zaledeyeva, they, struck by the beauties of nature and by the fertility of valleys, was named their village "Obetovannoyu" [The Promised Land].

In the Public Archive of Khakasii in the affairs of the steppe Duma of the connected different tribes is found the document, where it is indicated that in 1830 the peasant- freedmen, "priiskavshiye to themselves for the settlement place in the creek Sos", from obtaining of the agreement of the steppe Duma populated, "about which the First of May this year was comprised sentence".

82 "souls" settled initially at the new place. Surnames of the first settlers were Danilovs, Shishlyannikovs, Ipatovs, Arkhipovs, Sapunovs, Bogdanovs, Petrovs, Grigor'evs, and Borisovs.

These settlers, former fortress peasants of Count Kusheleva-Bezborodko, lived earlier in Pokrovskoe Chasolki village, Bobrov district, Voronezh province. It is evident from the documents that they arrived voluntarily to Siberia, since they were added into the discharge of state peasants. They initially settled in Krasnoyarsk region of Sukhobuzinsk rural district, but here they stayed not long and they were moved into the Minusinsk district, into the village of Kapterevo, and in 1830 they attained permission to establish a new village and as the worshippers of the Old Testament they named it "Obetovannaia", which means the chosen place.

Given peasants were "freedmen", and also "those fallen" from the orthodox faith — Sabbatarians [subbotniki].
Subbotniks (Judaizers) are members of one of the religious confessions (religions), the so-called Spiritual Christians, that arose in Russia at the end of the 1600s. They rejected Christian dogma and religoin and referred only to the Old Testament. They don't recognized the trinity, but a united God. They considered that Christ is one of the prophets. They celebrated Saturday, but not Sunday. They performed circumcision. They adhered to the food prohibitions: they did not eat meat of animals that the Bible referred to as unclean.
In the beginning of 1848 on the edict of Enisey fiscal chamber into the village Obetovannaia are transferred the "peasants from the settlers of the Krasnoyarsk region of the Zaledeyevskoy rural district of the Molokan sect in the number of 23 families".
The Molokans left the Dukhobors in the mid 1760s to the 1780s. Their study was called "spiritual milk". Bible it could interpret allegorical each believer. Attention to the spiritual, but not ritual side of religion was paid, they considered that the god is a spirit, which reveals itself in earthly manifestations, but the soul of believer serves obitalishchem for the god. Practiced posts spiritual (abstention from the smoking, alcoholism, the ribaldry, the entertainment) and carnal (abstention from the food and the drink). Sacraments are interpreted "spiritually". Baptism is understood as a perception of study, communion is vkusheniye of the "verb of God". Denied the authority of orthodox church, its clergy and rituals. The rejected icons, the cross, the power of the saints and fasting. They did not have churches, they prayed in their typical homes. In the course of time be made burning hot to the general Molokans, who defended the principle of collective life, and constants. The latter were approached reconciliation with the Orthodoxy.
Village of Obetovannaya became the center of sectarianism in the Minusinsk region and it occurs under the special observation of the Minister of the governor general of East Siberia.
By the edict of 31 May, 1850, Minusinsk of zemstvo law court reported to Shushenskoe to rural district administration that "the village Obetovannaia of that rural district according to order Minister general the governor of East Siberia was renamed into the village Iudino, and besides it prescribes not to add into this village of people of orthodox profession". Giving this name to village, province authorities wanted to stigmatize its inhabitants, who broke with the orthodox faith.
Как видно из дел Шушенского волостного правления, крестьяне-сектанты, жившие в деревне, делились на три группы: государственные крестьяне, которые прибыли в Сибирь с согласия царского правительства, ввиду чего им предоставлялись особые льготы (вольноотпущенники графа Кушелева-Безбородко были причислены в разряд государственных крестьян);

крестьяне из поселенцев — крестьяне, которые за “веру” привлекались к суду и по приговору высылались в Сибирь. (Данные крестьяне назывались еще “ссыльные — поселенцы”, к ним относился и Тимофей Бондарев);

As can be seen from the affairs of Shushenskoe of rural district administration, peasant- sectarians, who lived in the village, were divided into three groups: the state peasants, who profit into Siberia from the agreement of tsarist government, in view of which by them were allowed the special privileges (inl'nootpushchenniki of graph Kusheleva-Bezborodko they were added into the discharge of state peasants);

peasants from the settlers — peasants, who for the "faith" were assigned to the law court and on the sentence sent into Siberia. (given peasants they were called still "deportee — settlers", to them it related By timofey Bondaryev);

settlers — peasants, who at one's own risk arbitrarily populated Siberia.
In 1854 by assignment of the governor general of East Siberia Murav'eva village visited V.Yakushin, the son of a Decembrist. The content of his report to us is unknown, but its travelling notes were preserved and they are located in the central state historical archive in Moscow.
Yakushin noted the quality of peasant buildings, a good species of horses — Russian cart horses, brought by them from the Voronezh and Orel provinces, "which, until now, be famous and value extremely in Yenisey guberne". Official emphasized diligence of peasants, soberness and "the honor, which they use in the region", it at the same time noted that they find "under a strict police supervision, with the limitation of journeyings to five versts [5.3 km, or 3.3 miles]".
In spite of the repressive policy of tsarist government and authorities of Siberian administration in the attitude of inhabitants, the village of Iudino toward the end 1800s already obtained wide reputation in Siberia and beyond its limits.
Celebration of the farmer
The inhabitants of village the first among the Russian population of Khakass- Minusinsk basin began to be occupied by irrigation. In the village up to the present time were preserved the tracks of the so-called "miracle" ditches (ancient irrigating channels) and three channels, carry ouied by the settlers: two from Sos creek and one from Kyndyrla creek.
The inhabitant of village Kuzma Fedorovich Bodiagin rightfully is considered the pioneer of contemporary irrigation. In the Minusinsk edge in 1864 he conducted for himself channel and obtained from 1,5 fiscal dessiatines the harvest more than of 83 metric centners per the hectare. This generated interest of the peasants in the irrigation, whose earth suffered from the drought and it was wind. In 1873 the peasants under Kuzma Bodyagin's management in three months opened large ditch, which made it possible to water 125 peasant dessiatines.
In the notes of 1911 of the colleague of hydrotechnical division Ivanov are indicated that the total length of all channels on the land tenure of the village Of iudina from the creeks Of kyndyrla and Sos reached to 48 kilometers, and a quantity of watered earth in the years with the usual sediments was equal to 1800 hectares, while in the arid years — 500 GA.
But, perhaps, the widest reputation the village of Iudino obtained after that, when the inhabitant of this village of Timofey Mikhaylovich Bondaryev wrote the book the "The Triumph of the Landtiller, or Industry and Idleness", which Leo Tolstoy called brilliant.
His biography of Timofey it tells in this book: "4 of up to 37 years was troops of Donskoy landowner Chernozubova or Janov peasant, by farmer; and as these people they were aggravated by works, this seems all known. Then landowner returned me in soldiers, and five children of small remained under his heavy and unbearable yoke.
However, on the arrival my into Siberia in 1867 with the wife and two children, on us it was on one shirt, yes even those kazennyya, but more any there was belongings not. In the same 14 year it gained house with all to it equipment, so that I can be equal with the considerable and eternally here living peasant".
In 1898 Bondaryev passed away on the 78th year of his life and was buried in Iudino cemetery. On his grave was placed a table with the manuscripts, which were now farsightedly undertaken by its admirers and sent for the Minusinsk museum. The letters L.N. Tolstoy are sent for the Tolstoy and historical museums in Moscow; part of them were lost even to Iudino. Some manuscripts are stored in the Minusinsk and Moscow museums.
In the anniversary for village 1957-1958 next to the village soviet was set the monument- obelisk Timofei Bondaryev with the thanksgiving inscription: "Writer- champion for the happiness of the poor peasant's peasantry of Siberia". Lame table stood in sepulchral hillock, and two plates with the will disappeared, did not become wooden ogradki and half of poplars — in all, that there was zapechatleno in the photograph of ancient museum photographer.
According to the bitter evidence of relations, this burial after only several years was disfigured by ill-wishers. The police in the searches for secret papers dug out grave, was destroyed enclosure, rock plates were broken and gone down into the pit.
Did not leave this place at rest and late. During June 1940 the burial was again dug out, now already by the colleagues of Minusinsk museum. They fixed the absence of there any papers and raised the upward broken sepulchral plates. According to the evidence of the oldest inhabitants of village, this old cemetery, where were concealed the founders of village, was with the Bolshevik unceremoniousness liquidated. And even with the economic effect — plate and stones from all burials, including Bondarev's, were broken and driven away hence for the foundation of orphan asylum. But did not go this for the benefit — the building through several years sgorelo.

But on vzgorke, where greened sepulchral of poplar, builders levelled out area, and there arose... the housing of school, to the right, only it is below, there was otmezhevana the area of kindergarten, enclosed by shtaketnoy fence. Next to it and pritulilsya the poplar — patriarch with the broken off apex — is unique of five, planted by Bondaryev. But grave? It, i.e., epitaph... they carried to fifty steps aside. Did not survive the monument with Bondarev's bust, which stood to the right of village soviet. There is no decrepit cottage, where Shityu the Timofey Mikhailovich wrote about the fate of Russian peasantry, also.
